One of many angel appearances, the story of Zechariah questioning angels makes me wonder how often we do this today. Here’s a snippet from this well known word.

Scripture

Zechariah said to the angel, “Do you expect me to believe this? I am an old man and my wife is an old woman.”

But the angel said, “I am Gabriel, the sentinel of God, sent especially to bring you this glad news. But because you won’t believe me, you’ll be unable to say a word until the day of your son’s birth. Every word I’ve spoken to you will come true on time – God’s time.” – Luke 1:18-20

Questions of Trust

Wow! Just wow!  Do you ever find yourself questioning the angels or questioning God?

Of course not, you might say. I have never had a conversation with an angel or the Lord.

Oh, my friend! Maybe you have not had an audible conversation. However, if you pray, I am certain you have had many heart to hearts with God, It is quite possible you may have spoken with an angel or two unaware.

God Speaks

God uses people in our lives to convey His messages to us today much as He used the angel to Zechariah. And if God could use a real angel then, what makes you think He cannot do the same now if He so chooses?

Our God is awesome and mighty and can do ALL things!

This very real and vocally audible exchange had to be an absolute thrill for Zechariah once he realized the full import of the angel’s words and the truth of them.

Yet, once he left that altar, he was unable to tell anyone what he had witnessed and been party to!

He had spoken with an angel of the Lord face to face. Unfortunately for him, he questioned the word of God sent to Him by this messenger. Unthinkable, you say!

Our Doubts

Let me tell you a secret. We do this all the time ourselves! We read God’s words and do not claim the promises there.

We hear the pastor preach on the truths of the Bible, nod, raise our hands in worship even. Then we go right back out into the world as if we had not just encountered holiness.

Let us learn to recognize these moments and not be struck mute like poor Zechariah.

Proclaim the Good News

Go tell it on the mountain! Go tell it at the water cooler! The coffee shop! Just go tell it friends!
